Enjoying a picnic at a park or near the water is one of the best ways to take advantage of Michigan’s beautiful spring and summer weather. Sitting at a picnic table in the sunshine chowing down is already pretty awesome, but when you have the added bonus of activities nearby, it makes the day complete. Here are six great southeast Michigan picnic spots  should check out this spring and summer!

Belle Isle Park

If you live in Detroit, odds are you have at least heard of Belle Isle. There is so much to do at the iconic park, from the Nature Zoo to the Great Lakes Museum to the Conservatory. You can also grab your cooler, pack some sandwiches and some drinks, and go enjoy the beaches and water the park has to offer.

Macomb Orchard Trail

For those nature nuts out there, the Macomb Orchard Trail has plenty of open fields, beautiful wooded areas, and a 24 mile long trail for walking, biking, or running. Before you hit the trail, head to the east side of the park where you’ll find gazebos, picnic tables, restrooms, and more amenities to make your outdoor picnic perfect.

Bishop Park

Anything you could want in a traditional park can be found at Bishop Park in Wyandotte along the Detroit Riverfront. The park features a nice spot for an afternoon picnic with a picnic deck, a concession stand, and a beautiful view of the Detroit River. You can also enjoy fishing off of their fishing pier, while kids can have fun on the playground and basketball courts.

The park is also in close proximity to Stewart Lake where kids can enjoy a spiraling waterslide and a playscape.

Heritage Park

If you’re looking to take the kids with you on your next picnic, take a venture out to Heritage Park in Canton. With a play set and a fun splash playground, they’ll be set for hours while you can enjoy a picnic in the beautiful park. If your party is a little bigger, you can rent one of the park’s pavilions for up to five hours at a time through September 30.

Starr Jaycee Park

If you need something to do with a large group of friends, playing a pickup game of some sort is always a guaranteed fun time. Starr Jaycee Park in Royal Oak not only offers baseball diamonds, a football field, and volleyball courts, but a disc golf course as well. Enjoy a nice picnic in the park and then dominate your friends in a sport; sounds like the perfect summer afternoon.
